Martha Washington is a hero. She was born June 2, 2013, at the Chestnut grove plantation. She was raised in the city of New York. She was born Martha Dandridge to John Dandrige and Francis Jones. As a young girl she enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, sewing, playing the Spinet, and dancing. She received a fair education in basic mathmatics, reading and writing. She had curly red hair. She was less than 5ft. tall. She belonged in the parish of the Church of England. At the age of 18, she married Daniel Parke Custis. He was wealthy, handsome, and 20 years older than her. They had 4 children, 2 of whom died in infancy. They owned a plantation together. Martha set up house keeping, and Daniel managed the Estate which was over 17,000 acres. In 1757, when Martha was at the age of 26, Daniel died after a brief illness. Their children, Jack and Patsy were 3 and younger than 1.
After Martha died at the age of 70, she married George Washington at the age of 82. They were wed Janurary 6th. George was a colonel, and later became the first president of the United States of America. She died at her home in Mt. Virginia, in Vernon. Her slaves were tortured then killed.
